Butler County was created on Dec. 13, 1819 from parts of Monroe County and Conecuh County. This particular county was named in honor of Capt. William Butler, a soldier of the Creek War of 1813-14.

Currently the Butler County Seat is located in Greenville, which was originally named Buttsville, and in addition the county government website is http://www.unionspringsalabama.com/government.html

Butler County Courthouse and Government Records
